Visiting Camp Friends
January 17, 2005
My wife and I first met at a summer camp, over five years ago now. We made some good friends at camp, and we have all tried to stay in touch over the years. A number of our camp friends now live in Midland and teach at the Midland Classical Academy. (One of our camp friends’ dad’s is a founder of the school.)
My wife had an audit in a nearby city; we decided that I would join her for the weekend and that we would drive down to Midland for a visit. We had the chance to attend some of the classes, including my good friend Brandon’s Greek 1 class. My Greek is quite a bit rusty — so it was a fun review for me, as well. He provided us with the following the Greek sentences, and we translated them as a class. They had not done verbs yet, so he provided translations for those (you may need to install a Greek font to view this correctly):
- ἦλθον εἰς την οικίαν
They went into the dwelling. - ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ ἐκκέχυται ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ἡμῶν
The love of God has been poured in the hearts of us. - ὁ λόγος κρινεῖ αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ
The word will judge him in the last day.
We stayed with A.J. and Megan in their new house (we worked with A.J. and met Megan just before they got married over a year ago); we also spent a lot of time with Brandon and his fiancee Laura (this was our first time to meet her). We saw a number of other friends, as well — along with their new houses and new babies! We had a really good time.
