The night before Valentine’s Day, my wife and I went with another couple to see Moonlight and Magnolias, a play inspired by the writing of the Gone With The Wind screenplay. I was unaware of this before reading the playbill, but producer David O. Selznick hired playwright Ben Hecht to rewrite the screenplay five days before shooting started — and Hecht hadn’t ever read the book!
The play was hilarious, poking quite a bit of fun at the movie and the movie industry. It was a good thing we watched the four-hour movie the weekend before, or I don’t think we would have enjoyed it nearly as much.
